Women around the Word

Well the big day finally came, and Goldings enjoyed their first ever Women’s conference!

We had women in their 20’s right up to their 80’s, gathering together to hear God’s Word and bless each other as ‘women around the Word’ as opposed to being ‘women around the world!’

Our whole focus for the day was to consider what real worldliness is, and how worldliness can creep into our daily walk with God to make sin appear normal and righteousness seem strange!

The message that the Lord had given me for the day was based around the verses from 1 Corinthians 3 : 1 – 3 and Colossians 2 : 6 - 8  where Paul complains that the church has become ‘worldly’ and warns that we should “See to it that no one takes [us] captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.”

We enjoyed a quick break together, where we were able to have a drink, some fruit or a slice of Joanna’s famous sponge cake, and then continued with our meeting where there was an opportunity for women to share their thoughts and experiences. Many women did this, praying, sharing scripture, and telling of how the Lord had shaped and challenged them to deal with    issues of worldliness in their lives.  This was a great encouragement to us all. We are really grateful to Gill Hawkins who interpreted for our four deaf ladies, but this also gave us the biggest giggle of the day...at one point, Gill, sitting on the stage interpreting, became so engrossed in the message that she simply folded her arms, leaned back in her chair and looked very relaxed as she listened.  I (and others) soon noticed our deaf sisters fidgeting in their seats, trying to get Gill’s attention...but Gill was deeply absorbed in the message! It was one of those “you had to be there” moments and ended up with several ladies shouting ‘Gill!’ and then all of us erupting into laughter!  Praise the Lord for a good day—being blessed and encouraged by the Lord, and by each other. May the Lord make us the fragrance of Christ at Goldings!
